SUNDAY
Sunday morning. A medium difficulty guided circular walk, with a steep uphill climb to the fort. Join writer Luke Turner and field artist Rob St John for a walk to the atmospheric remains of a Roman fort, the excursion starting with a steam train ride. At Krankenhaus, we’re all cavorting with the ghosts of Roman legions. The road from the coastal settlement of Ravenglass to Hardknott Fort passed directly through the ground now occupied by the festival. Now you can follow in Roman footsteps in a walk up to Hardknott Fort, guided by artist, ecologist, and fell runner Rob St John with help from writer and Quietus co-founder Luke Turner. The circular walk is 6.75 miles (3.5 hours walking time) and is mostly gentle, with a steep incline as we reach Hardknott Fort. We’ll have time for a pint at the Woolpack Inn and maybe even a paddle in the River Esk by the stepping stones at St Catherine’s Church. Pick up a leaflet on the walk from Festival HQ.
