Walks from the Ratty: Past and Present of Nature-Rich Miterdale

About Walks from the Ratty: Past and Present of Nature-Rich Miterdale

Saturday morning.

Join us on a walk that takes in ancient cairn fields, local philanthropists, and the latest approaches to land management in Miterdale. This walk will climb (slightly) up from Eskdale Green station onto the edge of the open fell, descending into a transitioning forestry site, then back down the Miterdale valley and over Giggle Alley towards the returning train. To get to the start of the 4.25-mile walk, we will take the La’al Ratty steam train from Ravenglass and Eskdale station to Irton Road station. You can purchase return train tickets on the day, but we advise you to buy tickets in advance to avoid disappointment. NB: for train tickets, use the La’al Ratty discount code, which will be emailed two weeks prior to the festival. See here for more La’al Ratty info: https://ravenglass-railway.co.uk/ Taking part in this walk is entirely at your own risk. Please wear appropriate footwear and clothing for the conditions (some sections may be boggy after rain) and bring your drinks and snacks. Please bring any medication you may need.

Miterdale walk itinerary:

Meet outside Festival HQ at 9.45 am

10.25 am: Depart from Ravenglass and Eskdale steam rail station and disembark at Irton Road.

2.20 pm: Take the return train from Irton Road, which is also the 2.10 pm train from Dalegarth.

The walk should take around 2.5 hours, and participants should be back at the festival site around 3.15 pm.
