TELESHOPPING ARE MANCHESTER WAKING-DREAM-POP DUO MOLLY SUNDERLAND AND ANDY ADAMS
A dizzying clinic in associative sound design, atmospheric post-punk, and heart-pumping euphoria. Songs that sample the real-time dreamworld.
Self-recording and self-producing all their work, Teleshopping have been capturing audiences with their ethereal live sets and glitchy, haunting soundscapes since the release of their debut single in winter 2023. Appearing on stages at Kendal Calling and Beyond the Music Festival in 2024, the pair also recently released a trio of live performances on YouTube filmed at the beautiful Halle St. Michael’s in Ancoats, featuring hand-drawn animations by experimental French artist Maud Nivet.
Their debut single Im Eis was made from a bed of field-recorded snow steps and ice smashed into a kitchen sink filtered through granular echo synths, with guitars, vocals, and bass recorded at Salford’s New Adelphi Studios. The lyrics meditate on the motivations of explorers and high-altitude mountaineers who seem to find a strange serenity in the jeopardy of wandering in extreme places, with the song taking its title from Warner Herzog’s 1978 travelogue, Vom Gehen im Eis, and sampling the man himself reading from it.
Teleshopping’s second single Go Looking, released in summer 2024, deals with the interplay of voluntary and involuntary memory in a post-broadcast world; where extreme individual responses to shared events accumulate and confuse, and no single cohesive narrative can form.
Concerned with how to live in the dead air, the black mirror stares back.
2025 will see the release of Teleshopping’s debut EP.
