EarthBall are a psychedelic free jazz ensemble from Nanaimo and Vancouver, Canada. Their music is fully improvised, drawing from experimental rock, free improvisation, post punk, and more. Live performances are dense, dynamic, and elastic, shifting between collective surges, fractured song-like forms, and extended passages shaped by close listening and group instinct.
Since forming, Earth Ball has quickly established an international profile through touring and releases with the UK label Upset The Rhythm. Their 2024 album, It’s Yours, received strong critical attention from outlets including The Wire and The Quietus, and was followed by a 13-date UK tour featuring a residency at Café Oto with collaborators Steve Beresford and Chris Corsano. Recordings from that residency launched Actual Earth Music, an ongoing live LP series documenting the band in performance.
In November 2025, Earth Ball toured Europe with performances across multiple countries, including two appearances at Le Guess Who? Festival. That tour coincided with the release of their third album Outside Over There (Upset The Rhythm), which was voted #2 Best Record of 2025 by The Quietus. Whether on record or on stage, Earth Ball is known for high-intensity performances that privilege risk, collective momentum, and the unrepeatable conditions of live improvisation.
In April 2026, EarthBall will tour the UK with two headline dates at Café Oto, including a collaboration with celebrated comedian Stewart Lee, who recently wrote about the band for The Quietus. The band has also been interviewed by John Olson (Wolf Eyes) and Mike Watt (Minutemen), appearing on Watt’s long-running radio show. Actual Earth Music Vol. 3 & 4 will be released in May 2026, featuring live recordings from EarthBall’s 2025 European tour.
