Sunday. High-spirited young sprites – and parents – will be at home at Barbaric Battles with Muncaster’s Luke Woods. A family-friendly favourite at the Medieval Muncaster Festival, Barbaric Battles is an interactive have-a-go session, using foam swords and guaranteed non-military-standard shields and armour. Children and parents form the fun-time armed forces, recreating historical battles. Minimum age is four, and no upper age limit. Safe and vigilantly monitored, with an emphasis on education, and the important takeaway that war is a genuinely dangerous pastime and should be avoided if at all possible. F U Hitler. On Sunday, from 11.30 am on the Muncaster Castle front lawn, battle sessions last 30 minutes.
